Okay. I have no idea what we should read, when we should start, or how badly this is all going to fall apart. I predict we’ll get most of the way through one book and start to lose people to real life commitments. As for a second book…well…that would be a nice surprise. :)

Anyway, reblog this for others to see and please answer with a few book suggestions.

My one recommendation is that we not choose a particularly long or overly dense book for our first outing. Infinite Jest, for example, would NOT be a good choice. Otherwise, any novel or single-author short story collection that you want to read and talk about would be great. It could be an old favorite you want to share with everyone else or something you’ve always meant to read. We’ll take suggestions for a while and in a week or so I’ll put the choices up and we can use preferential voting to (hopefully) select a first book.

This blog accepts submissions - which I’ll endeavor to get posted quickly - which I think will work really well for each of us who wants to write our thoughts on each week’s reading. Obviously beyond the submitted thoughts, we’ll be able to reblog for discussion. I haven’t added comments to the blog yet; I’m not sure it really needs them. If it turns out I’m totally wrong about that, it’s not a big deal for me to toss them on.

Oh yeah…I posted to the wrong tumblog the first time and when I deleted and corrected, Tumblr informed me I’d used up my allotment of questions for the day. Brilliant. I’ll be asking for your recommendations again when I’m free to ask.
